Put Down the Alcohol and Rekindle Your Passion for Intimacy!

Do you remember those “Dear Agony Aunt” columns from when our parents sought advice for their dilemmas? Today, we have social media and a flood of information at our fingertips. In this blog, I aim to take us back to those simpler times, sharing insights on common issues I notice in my work. My goal is to reach out to those who may feel isolated or confused and remind them that natural well-being life coaching offers alternative support .

As an accredited and experienced life coach, my mission is to empower individuals to discover their inner strength and tools for lasting solutions to life’s challenges, whether they involve career confidence, health-related struggles, stressful relationships, financial pressures, or emotional and spiritual hurdles.

In this particular blog, I want to focus on passion and body confidence for those over 40, and how these aspects often diminish when couples start a family, launch a business, or take on demanding careers, especially as they enter middle age. It’s common for couples to experience a decline in passion, making intimacy a lesser priority.

But why is this happening? In our 40s, we are at our peak! This is the perfect time to be passionate and open about our desires! However, many women face challenges such as perimenopause, while men may experience a drop in testosterone levels. Stress certainly plays a significant role too. Yet, more frequently, the decline in intimacy is a result of unhealthy daily habits, lack of discipline, excuses, and poor communication within relationships. For instance, many women find themselves juggling multiple responsibilities—raising children, managing a career, caring for elderly parents—leading them to use alcohol as a way to unwind in the evenings. Unfortunately, this doesn’t actually relax them; it can exacerbate hormonal imbalances and lead to issues like weight gain, high blood pressure, brain fog, guilt, and shame. Over time, long-term alcohol use can erode both body confidence and mental well-being, ultimately reducing libido. The same applies to men, who may also turn to alcohol for similar reasons. I often reflect on the scenario where, once the children leave home, couples are left with each other—the mother or father of their children. It’s vital that both partners prioritise their own well-being and their relationship, even while raising kids.

Solutions:

1. Consider taking a break from alcohol and observe how you feel. You might be pleasantly surprised to find your hormones balancing and your confidence and passion returning. Give it a try!

2. Enlist an accountability buddy—someone you trust who genuinely wants to help you break unhealthy habits.

3. Establish daily, consistent habits focused on natural well-being to enhance your body confidence and safeguard your relationship.

4. Make time to communicate calmly and lovingly with each other. A walk in nature together can work wonders. Remember who you were before the kids came along or before your business took off. Enjoy day dates—they can be delightful!

5. Seek coaching and online support from an experienced and accredited life coach who understands the issues you face and has personally navigated similar challenges. If needed, don’t hesitate to seek additional support.

  • I firmly believe that relationships can rediscover their passion and desire for one another, especially if it existed before life’s stresses and challenges took over.
